What is a kritik?

  1. I loved this. It was great. I hope debaters pick up "procedural objection" as the term of their argument in NCFCA/Stoa debate.

The best thing I'd say is that anymore I usually see the K going as pre-FIAT, but you're exactly right many judges resist voting pre-FIAT. Basically, most debaters I've gone against on these issues have realized that IF (using your example) tribe is a bad word, and they can prove it and I can't disprove it, they are _guaranteed_ to win if they make it pre-FIAT, but it can be _outweighed_ if they make it post-FIAT.

But you're literally asking the judge to vote on the terms used and not the arguments. This is a tough hurdle for many judges, especially new ones who think it should be about clash of plans.

  2. Very good points, especially about outweighing. If they can win that it's a solvency turn, then it would take a turned disadvantage to outweigh that. But those moves are most effective in front of judges who are already familiar with, and open to, the argument. As far as I'm concerned, the biggest downside of pursuing this strategy for a community judge would be the learning curve.

  3. Is it possibly okay with you if I show this video at a camp this summer?

  4. Absolutely! I do these because I hope people will find them useful. That sounds to me like you and your campers finding it useful, so help yourself.

  5. Sweet. Because that video says literally everything I try to tell my students every year, explained so much better than I have ever managed.
